MPLS Forwarding Benchmarking Methodology for IP Flows
نویسندگان
چکیده
This document describes a methodology specific to the benchmarking of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) forwarding devices, limited to the most common MPLS packet forwarding scenarios and delay measurements for each, considering IP flows. It builds upon the tenets set forth in RFC 2544, RFC 1242, and other IETF Benchmarking Methodology Working Group (BMWG) efforts. This document seeks to extend these efforts to the MPLS paradigm.

Label Assignment and Failure Recovery Approaches for IP Multicast Communication in MPLS Networks Omar Qasem Banimelhem, Ph.D. Concordia University, 2005 Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is an Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) framework that provides for the efficient designation, routing, forwarding, and switching of traffic flows through the network. MPLS is widely used for multicast ...
متن کاملIP Forwarding Alternatives in Cell Switched Optical Networks
Optical switching will enable core Internet packet switching to scale with future transmission rate increases. Currently proposed optical ATM switches do not allow packet reassembly, which is necessary for packet level forwarding. This results in the requirement to create end to end ATM virtual connections for flows even if they contain only one packet. In electronically switched networks MPOA ...
متن کاملInternet Engineering Task Force (ietf) Benchmarking Terminology for Protection Performance
This document provides common terminology and metrics for benchmarking the performance of sub-IP layer protection mechanisms. The performance benchmarks are measured at the IP layer; protection may be provided at the sub-IP layer. The benchmarks and terminology can be applied in methodology documents for different sub-IP layer protection mechanisms such as Automatic Protection Switching (APS), ...
متن کاملInternet Engineering Task Force (ietf) Multipoint Label Distribution Protocol In-band Signaling in a Virtual Routing and Forwarding (vrf) Table Context
An IP Multicast Distribution Tree (MDT) may traverse both label switching (i.e., Multiprotocol Label Switching, or MPLS) and nonlabel switching regions of a network. Typically, the MDT begins and ends in non-MPLS regions, but travels through an MPLS region. In such cases, it can be useful to begin building the MDT as a pure IP MDT, then convert it to an MPLS Multipoint Label Switched Path (MP-L...
متن کاملPacket Forwarding with Multiprotocol Label Switching
Label Switching (MPLS) is an emerging technology that aims to address many of the existing issues associated with packet forwarding in today's Internetworking environment. It provides a method of forwarding packets at a high rate of speed by combining the speed and performance of Layer 2 with the scalability and IP intelligence of Layer 3. In a traditional IP (Internet Protocol) routing network...
